| In 1940 author and folklorist William A. Owens made a live recording of "Grey Ghost" singing "Hitler Blues" in Navasota. After the song received a write up in TIME magazine, an acetate of it was sent to Alistair Cooke of the BBC for a wartime broadcast.. The recordings Grey Ghost made for Owens in 1940 ("aluminum disc recordings" SERIES. 25) still survive, stored at the Cushing Memorial Library of the Texas A&M University.
